Job Description Summary
The Head of Tax is reporting directly to Country CFO and indirectly to Global Tax. Lead the tax organization for all Novartis entities in the country. Responsibility for local tax advisory across all business taxes, incentives, governance, transfer pricing, compliance & risk management as well as people development. Act as a business partner and coordinate tax strategy with local and global stakeholders for all business taxes. Ensure full compliance with all local and international tax laws for all Novartis affiliates in the country. Actively drive alignment with corporate finance functions and participate in corporate finance projects.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
Leading Tax
- Monitor local and international tax environment (i.e. BEPS, tax reforms), work with local CFO and FSC to drive quality and ensure compliance with all local tax laws, advise Group Tax on relevant local tax developments and work out recommendations and input to policy makers as required
- Actively participate in industry forums to bring insights/best practice back to Novartis. Represent Novartis Group in different platforms such as YASED, AIFD etc. and manage relations with advisors
- Actively drive alignment of corporate functions considering: Transfer Pricing, statutory profitability monitoring, capital adequacy requirements of legal entities, thin cap monitoring and financing, opportunities for new funding/financing models, legal entity simplification
Compliance & Risk Management
- Drive implementation of updates in tax legislation
- Effectively and timely communicate all tax matters through regular reporting to CCFO and HQs and keeps the local Finance community up to date.
- Have overall responsibility for correct and timely corporate income tax filings and meeting other tax obligations, including tax forecasting and reporting
- As a business partner proactively and in a constructive manner advises all divisions and functions in all types of business matters (e.g. contracts with 3rd parties), provide strategic indirect tax consultancy & support to finance and business teams from tax perspective
- Own the creation, maintenance and improvement of the local tax risk management and governance framework
Planning & Structuring
- Review of business development deals, structuring/restructuring projects from a local tax perspective, including performing tax due diligence on potential M&A projects
- Identify tax incentives in the country, make sure that tax incentives are fully utilized by coordinating & leading the respective departments
- Management & supervision of all tax and customs audits with the objective to keep adjustments within expectations.
- Proactive follow-up for tax litigation application phases with external tax lawyers.
- Oversight of tax reporting processes, tax sensitive accounts. Review, communicate & implement internal divisional sign off, running tax check-ups.
- Oversight of all written correspondences with Ministry of Finance & Treasury, Customs Authority, Tax Offices. Engagement with fiscal authorities.
People & Self-Development
- Lead tax department, mentor & coach team member(s) in technical areas and support learning & growth
- Maintain a professional tax network internally and externally to share tax knowledge and best practices
- Enable and implement training plans for internal business stakeholders
- Act as a key point of contact for corporate finance functions in the country and lead / facilitate the corporate finance projects / activities
Essential Requirements:
- Minimum 15 years of experience in tax area
- Having worked in Big 4 companies or equivalent
- In-house experience in real sector companies
- University degree in Tax, Legal, Finance or Economics, additional qualification in a Tax or Finance related area (Tax Expert, Tax Lawyer, CTA)
- Excellent knowledge and solid experience of local corporation tax, indirect tax, transfer pricing and international tax law
- Excellent use of both English and Turkish (written and spoken)
- Good command of MS Office application
- Strong analytical skills with leadership presence
