About this role:
The Technical Service Account Manager brings relevant technical knowledge to customer accounts, helping translate complex client needs into customised solutions. Acting as both a technical advisor and sales representative, the Technical Service Account Manager identifies growth opportunities, supports product customisation, and builds trusted partnerships.
Accountabilities:
- Serve as a technical consultant for the assigned accounts, understanding client needs to develop product solutions and applications that align with specifications and performance requirements.
- Collaborate with internal teams, including teams in Sales & Account Management and Innovation & R&D, to communicate client requirements and support the creation of tailored product solutions and applications.
- Present technical insights to clients within the assigned accounts, articulating the benefits and value propositions of solutions while addressing potential concerns.
- Proactively identify opportunities for product or service upsell, leveraging comprehensive technical knowledge to illustrate the value of enhanced or additional offerings.
- Maintain detailed account records for the dedicated part of the portfolio, ensuring accuracy in customer information, needs and preferences for long-term relationship building.
- Support the sales process by contributing to customised sales strategies within the team, based on technical understanding and client requirements.
Skills/Experience (Individual Contributor):
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Food Science/Technology or related field.
- Comprehensive knowledge of relationship management, sales and a key technical/scientific discipline within Technical Service, with full knowledge of methodologies, processes, practices, and atypical issues within Technical Service function.
- Largely able to operate independently, though may seek guidance on atypical or complex Technical Service issues. Able to coach juniors on technical and operational matters in a specialism.
- Accountable for own targets.
- Frequently conducts detailed analysis and investigation to identify customised solutions for customers, determine best options, or suggest improvements to existing methods.
- This role involves initiating communication with cross-functional teams to address and resolve shared issues, collaborate on processes or transactions, and interpret or clarify technical information to enhance understanding.
Desired Competency Profile:
- This role requires an intermediate level of ‘Portfolio Expertise & Category Technical Expertise’, through deep understanding of the ingredient solution portfolio, interactions with customer products / processes, and regulatory frameworks. This expertise enables individuals to provide insights on ingredient performance, lead technical customer discussions, and collaborate with sales to enhance account plans.
- An intermediate level of ‘Business Development & Opportunity Prioritisation’ is essential for this role, using data analysis and collaboration with Sales to identify and categorise opportunities, managing pipeline using CRM system. Prioritises opportunities based on value and time horizon, in turn informing resource/ investment allocation. Also supports in gaining planned order / revenue commitment from customers.
- An intermediate level of ‘Solution Design & Project Management’ requires individuals to analyse customer needs in a data-driven way and collaborate with stakeholders to design profitable solutions. They will design advanced recipes, coordinating across functions to ensure feasibility, whilst managing complex projects, overseeing all phases and stakeholders.
- An advanced level of ‘Solution Selling’ involves collaborating with stakeholders to gain a holistic view of customer needs, including those uncommunicated. This expertise enables individuals to develop tailored solutions combining products and services, while supporting Sales in understanding cost and value propositions. Communicates technically complex solutions clearly and prepares data-driven proposals.
- A foundational level of ‘Solution, Commercial & Financial Effectiveness’ is demonstrated by supporting the analysis of commercial data to understand the financial viability of solutions and contributing technical expertise to optimise commercial outcomes. Individuals will grasp core financial metrics and how technical decisions impact them, adhering to commercial guidelines and pricing models.
- Demonstrates an intermediate level of ‘Customer Relationship Management & Market Engagement’ through deep understanding of priority customer organisations and pain points, regularly engaging with customers alongside Sales. Plans TS involvement in key industry events and attends these to represent the business and gain exposure. Also evaluates and reports on all engagements, assessing outcomes.
- A foundational level of ‘Capability Development & Coaching’ is demonstrated by supporting peers in understanding competency expectations. Individuals will offer informal mentoring and coaching to colleagues, directing them to resources for self-led learning and offering ongoing feedback upon request.
